REGISTRATION
INFORMATION
Can my child sign up for any days he/she wants?
When you enroll your child, you must commit to an
entire session or the entire school year. You must sign up for the same day for
the entire session.
Can my child alternate between disciplines?
Students can register for more than one day of Art,
Theater, Music and Movement classes, but are not permitted to take more than
one discipline on the same day. If your child tries one discipline and decides
he/she prefers the other, you may switch the day and/or discipline within the
first two weeks of the session if there is space available. If you are
switching days, you must let SCA know by
What is the latest day that I can register? Or can I register
mid-session?
SCA can accept registrations after the session has
begun. To ensure your child will be able to attend Arts4Kids, parents must
register no later than 12:00 noon on Thursday one week prior to the date you
would like your child to attend.
If my child normally attends Arts4Kids but has not yet registered or
paid, can he/she still take the bus to the Center?
No. If you have not enrolled your child or have not
paid for your child to attend Arts4Kids sessions, he/she will not receive a
pass, and subsequently will not be allowed on the Arts4Kids buses. The schools
and bus drivers do not let any child take a bus without an Arts4Kids pass.

PAYMENTS
Is there a payment plan?
Arts4Kids has been divided
into four sessions to make registration and payments easier for parents.
Parents must pay for the entire session at the time of registration. You may pre-register for future sessions using
auto pay. If you choose to utilize
the auto pay program, you must do so the first time you register for the
2009-2010 Arts4Kids Session. To enroll
in the auto pay program, you must place a valid credit card on file with SCA.
This card will be charged on the first day of registration for each session (auto
pay will be charged on, 10/12, 12/7, and 3/8.)
ATTENDANCE
POLICY
What if my child can’t come every day?
Arts4Kids classes run for approximately 8 - 10 weeks
at a time. Although your child may not attend class, teachers and staff members
have already planned for your child’s arrival, snack, materials and
participation for the entire session. There may be times that you will not be
able to come, however there is no
pro-rating, credits and/or make-ups for Arts4Kids. Students who want to
participate in Arts4Kids need to be able to commit to the entire session.
If my child misses a day can I schedule a makeup class or sign my child
up for a different day just for that week?
Arts4Kids is designed to place the same children in
the same classroom for the entire session. Consequently, SCA cannot accommodate
students switching days. The number of students attending each day must remain
consistent for SCA to confidently staff the classrooms with appropriate
supplies and number of instructors.
What if my child cannot attend Arts4Kids
due to illness or an unforeseen conflict?
Please call your child’s school AND SCA (at 440-337-1400) any time your child is sick, will not be attending class or if
someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking him/her up from
Arts4Kids. The reason SCA requests this is to avoid unnecessary phone calls and
alarm when your child does not arrive at the Center. If a phone call is not received, SCA will treat the absence as a missing
student and will contact the school, family and emergency contacts
immediately.
What if my child is sick for an extended period of time OR a
family emergency prevents my child from attending several classes?
If something like this does occur with
your family, please contact the front desk at SCA as soon as possible.
Situations such as these are handled on a case by case
basis with the Arts4Kids Coordinator. The Arts4Kids Coordinator is the only
person to address these situations. * Refunds during the student’s first week of classes will
be given in the amount of 50% of the registration fee.
After the student’s first week of Arts4Kids, there is a no refund policy. A $5
service charge will be assessed on any refund. Refunds are handled
through the City of Solon Finance Department and may take up to 3-4 weeks to
process.
HOW
ARTS4KIDS WORKS…
Arts4Kids Pass System
SCA has a pass system that alerts your child’s
teacher and bus driver that they will be coming to the Center. This system not
only alerts the school faculty but also ensures the safety of your child and
provides continuous adult supervision in their transition from school to SCA.
The following information reviews the pertinent arrival and departure policies
for Arts4Kids.
How does my child get to Arts4Kids?
The
If your child will be taking a
Solon school bus to the Center, parents must fill out a Transportation Request Form, located in
your packet, and return it to the Solon Schools’ Transportation Department.
During the first week of Arts4Kids, the Solon Transportation Department will
provide SCA with a list of buses that the students will take from each
individual school. SCA will provide you with that bus number as soon as it is
received.
For students who will be
dropped off at SCA: Parents of the student must provide SCA with the
name of the person or persons who will be dropping your child off at the
Center. Please indicate these name(s) on your registration form.
How does the school make sure my child takes the bus to the Center?
Each week, SCA faxes the schools a complete list of
all registered Arts4Kids students. Every day, the school office sends homeroom
teachers Arts4Kids sticker passes for those children who will be taking the bus
to the Center. The children then wear them from their classroom through the end
of Arts4Kids. For your child’s safety, the passes do not have any personal
identification on them.
How can I ensure my child remembers he or she is to attend Arts4Kids?
SCA and the schools make sure that your child’s
teacher receives the Arts4Kids passes as early in the day as possible.
Generally, teachers will hand out the passes at the end of the school day.
Reminding your child that he/she is going to Arts4Kids or writing a note as a
reminder is encouraged.
How does SCA ensure that children do not get lost between the school and
the Center?
When the bus arrives at SCA, your child is always
met by the Arts4Kids assistant. This person has a list of the students
scheduled for Arts4Kids that day. Before each bus is allowed to leave, the
assistant takes attendance. Attendance is then taken a second time in the
classroom to ensure that every child who arrives at the Center is in the
correct classroom.
What does SCA do when my child does not arrive on the Arts4Kids bus?
In the rare case that a child does not arrive at
SCA, the Arts4Kids assistant immediately alerts a staff member. The staff
member then calls your child’s school to determine if he/she was absent or was
picked up by a parent. 99% of the time,
when the school is contacted by a staff member, it is because a parent changed
plans or the child went home sick and the parent forgot to alert SCA. Whether your child is sick or you have made
different arrangements after school please contact SCA at 440.337.1400. In
the event that a child is still not accounted for, SCA would contact the
transportation department where they would immediately contact the driver of
the child’s regular bus and the
Where do I go to pick up my child?
Parents or caregivers must come into the building
to pick up a child, as students will not be allowed to leave the building
without an adult present. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at
4:30 pm. Music and Movement students will be dismissed from the
dance room; Theater students from the theater or gallery; Art students from the
At the
end of each Arts4Kids class, as
parents arrive, parents are asked to go to their students classrooms for
dismissal. SCA’s staff will only release your child to the adults
listed on the release form. Before leaving,
your child is required to remove their Arts4Kids pass, hand it to the Arts4Kids
assistant and tell the assistant what adult is taking him/her home. At that
time, the Assistant will take your child’s pass and check him/her out.
What if I get to SCA early? Can I watch?
The staff and instructors know that it is very
exciting to see your child participate in class; however, it also can be
disruptive. Parents are asked to wait in the front lobby so that the students
and the instructors can finish their lessons and clean up. A presentation week is set aside for parents who would like to see what their
child is learning towards the end of each session on the day of the child’s
class beginning at

ARTS4KIDS EXPECTATIONS AND CLASSROOM
DISCIPLINE POLICY
SCA ARTS4KIDS EXPECTATIONS
Because Arts4Kids is an educational program; SCA has implemented some
basic rules for each parent to review with
their child. These rules may vary slightly whether in Art, Theater, Movement or
Music. These behavior expectations will be
upheld in each of the classes and include the following:
These basic behavior expectations will be reviewed and posted
throughout the rooms used for Arts4Kids. If a child does not behave or is becoming
disruptive, the Arts4Kids teachers will follow the SCA Classroom Discipline
Policy listed below.
SCA CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE POLICY
SCA has created a discipline plan for A4K classes to maintain order and
a creative and productive environment. At the beginning of each session, the
instructors will review the behavior expectations
with the students.
In the event that a
student is disruptive or jeopardizes his/her safety or that of the other
students, the instructor will issue a verbal warning. If at that time the
student continues to be a distraction, the student will be asked to go to the
Coordinator’s office in order to compose himself/herself. Upon returning to
class if the student continues to be disruptive, the parents will be called to
discuss the child’s behavior and to pick him/her up for the day.
The SCA staff
members and instructors request that you discuss these basic behavior
expectations with your child and then sign below. The staff and instructors at
SCA believe that your understanding of the behavior expectations, and your
support
of them, is integral to making this a positive and enriching program for your
child.

I have read the Arts4Kids
Behavior Expectations and the Classroom Discipline Policy with my child. I
understand that if my child is being disruptive and/or is risking his/her
safety or that of the other students that the instructor will give my student a
verbal warning, a time for composure in the Coordinator’s office and/or call me
to discuss his/her behavior and to pick him/her up for the day.
